Shenandoah Valley Weddings| Allison & Brian 10.22.11|

I had such a pleasure to photograph Allison & Brian's beautiful October wedding this past Fall. It was a perfect day at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club for a wedding. Every time I see Allison, she is smiling, but on this her wedding day she was bursting with excitement and joy. There truly is nothing better than a glowing bride on her wedding day. Her bridesmaids helped her get ready to say I do, from her gorgeous dress to her awesome cowboy boots, this girl was ready to walk down the aisle. As Allison got ready in the upstairs of the B&B, Brian was banished to the basement. Which is one awesome man cave, stone walls and TV's with football, the guys were enjoying every moment of "getting ready".

The ceremony took place on the lawn in font for the historic B&B, how absolutely beautiful. It was romantic, emotional, and so sweet! They exchanged their vows, honored their parents for being there, and became Mr. & Mrs.

Their reception was great fun. The decor was mainly DIY, done by the bride. It was do so nicely. It was simple yet elegant. The party got started with Food, Fun and Dancing. Allison & Brian's first dance was sweet. Followed by the emotional Father/daughter and Mother/son dances. At one point, I am sure everyone was out on the dance floor! They even got Brian's grandparents out there... who have NEVER danced before (see photo below!)

So all in all, Allison & Brian had an absolutely beautiful October wedding.

Winchester VA Real Wedding| Natalie & Darren 7/17/11 |

Natalie & Darren tied the knot on July 17th 2011. It was a beautiful summer day in Winchester, VA. They held their wedding at the Historic George Washington Hotel in Old Town Winchester. It was the perfect backdrop for their fairytale like wedding. Upon arrival I began to shoot photos of the guys. We had so much fun with this, they even got into an evolution pose, and after the photos were taken they began to animate the scene.

As soon as I walked in the the suite where Natalie and the girls were all getting ready, I was taken back by the sheer beauty of Natalie and her gorgeous gown! It was unlike any dress I had seen. Once Natalie put it on, everyone's breath was taken away.

One of the most touching moments of the day was when Natalie's dad saw her for the first time. The whole room was in tears, including the father or the bride!

The ceremony was beautiful and the couple was so excited to be married. Once the ceremony was done, I had the chance to take The newlyweds around the hotel for some intimate photos of just them.

Then it was on to the reception.. fun, food, and dancing! What a wonderful wonderful day!!

Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause. Recently, we changed our name and our support. We now want to support ALL cancer patients, not just breast cancer.
Through our professional photographer network, we are helping cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the cancer patient. Clients participating in a Shoots for a Cure session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. Shenandoah Valley Real Wedding| Shepherdstown| Carol & Don's Victorican wedding|

Carol and Don had such a wonderful wedding day, I was so honored to share it with them. When I met with Carol before the wedding she told me all about their Victorian themed wedding. I was so excited to see how it would all turn out. When I arrived in Shepherdstown, WV the sun was just beginning to peek out behind the clouds. Once I saw Carol and Don I knew it was going to be an awesome day. Carol was dressed in a traditional Victorian dress and Don matched the era with his cool top hat.

As they said "I do" the clouds split and the light shined in on us all as we watched Carol and Don embrace for their first married kiss.

The reception was a short walk down the road in a (you guessed it) Victorian house, where everyone celebrated the newlyweds!!

Shenandoah Valley wedding photographer | Charlena & Josh

I had the pleasure of meeting Charlena at a Bridal show this past February at The Bowling Green Country Club in Front Royal VA. She was so bubbly and excited about her upcoming summer wedding, and I was so thrilled when she and her fiance Josh set an appointment to meet up and talk about wedding Photography. After spending around 3 hours talking, they decided to book SLP+D as their wedding day photographer! How exciting!!

Charlena is a event coordinator so she knew exactly what she wanted for her big day, as well as how transform it from a wedding venue into everything she dreamed for her wedding. Even the smallest detail was thought of... right down to their shoes.

Josh is a firefighter and loves to go pickin' through old barns and things. One of Josh's contributions to the wedding planning was how they would enter their reception, make sure to check out the vintage bike they used to enter the reception...

The day of their wedding was beautiful. On arrival there was could cover and thunder in the distance. The threat of rain was in the air, but we had no fear. In fact just as Charlena and Josh had the chance to take their romantic first look, the clouds broke and the sun shined down!! The ceremony was beautiful and touching which then lead to their fun reception. Thank you Charlena and Josh for the honor of capturing your wedding day and the moments you with cherish all your lives.

Using props in wedding and engagement photos is so in!

The use of props for wedding photography is in. You can bring something along that is meaningful to you as a couple or just something that is fun to pose with. For example, the tandem bike is cute, vintage, and play, all things you want in your wedding photography.

Also think about using props or doing a themed engagement session. These are examples of that. If it is something you both love to do (or watch like football) then you will love the photos from the shoot and want to share them.

So when choosing props for your wedding or engagement photos choose something that will pop in your photos!!

The Details that will Stand out in your Wedding Photography.

It really is all about the details. Make sure you have the details to make your wedding photos pop!

When it comes down to it, the bride and groom are the two most important things about the wedding and the wedding photography. Today, I want to share with you the importance of having fantastic details that help you and your celebration shine even more on your wedding day.

Let's start with my favorite details... The BRIDE'S accessories. This includes shoes (my favorite), jewelery, the bouquet, or even an awesome clutch, etc... As the Bride, you want to stand out on your BIG day, and in order to do that, even the littlest details matter. So go for the sparkling earrings if your hair is up. And don't forget the awesome color or patterned shoes!!

The Groom can show off some detail as well. One of the coolest details a groom can sport is some custom cufflinks. On a personal note, for my wedding the groomsman were all given cufflinks of their favorite hobby or something meaningful to them, and my handsome groom had football cufflinks to signify his love (and mine) for the game!! Cufflinks come out fabulous in photographs.

The details at your reception are very important too. Ways to add details to your reception site. Make sure you use a color scheme and involve that throughout the room. To start off the party, have a signature drink with a cute name or that is a color from your wedding scheme (alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks work great) or have a beautifully detailed escort card display. Have detailed centerpieces, go for more than just flowers... add color vases throughout the venue with single stem flowers, or twigs, depending on the time of year of your wedding...

Fun and Fresh ideas for the guest books, by using your engagementphotos.

How many weddings have you been to where the use the sameold traditional guest book? There are so many ideas you can use to make yourwedding unique to you. One way to make is special is to get rid of thetraditional guest book, and do something that is truly about you and you otherhalf. Read below to find out abouttwo fresh and fun ideas!

One idea is to turn your engagement session in to a coffeetable book that your guest can sign. They can be designed with places forguests to write a sweet note, next to their favorite photo of you. Then afterthe wedding you will have a guest book that you can keep out in your home andenjoy looking through the photos and reading the sweet words guests wrote youon your wedding day!

Another idea is to use your ABSOLUTE favorite photo fromyour e-session to create a sign-able work of art. A canvas of your favoritephoto would be displayed for your guest to sign and leave you love and wellwishes on your wedding day. Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer| Laura & Rob| Real weddings

What an awesome wedding. I had such a wonderful time photographing Laura & Rob's wedding at Whitehall manor in Bluemont, VA this August. I first met Laura back a few months, right there at Whitehall. She had such wonderful plans for her wedding, and as she spoke about it you could hear the excitement in her voice. I was so thrilled to be there to capture their memories the day of the wedding. Almost all of Laura's plans turned out beautifully, everything but the weather was in favor for their wedding. Last minute we had to move the ceremony inside, however, it was still so amazing. I secretly enjoyed the rain pouring down, because after the ceremony I was able to take them out on Whitehall's large porch. How absolutely romantic the rain can be on a wedding day. I loved the mood and emotion the rain helped set, and Laura and Rob had their share to do with mood setting. They are most definitely a couple drawn to one and other.

Let's just say, I loved everything about this couple and their wedding day.

The Reception…It’s party time! For your reception, truly, just have fun! Enjoy your new spouse…enjoy your family and friends. If there are special groups you want captured, grab your photographer and get some creative shots! During your First Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, and Mother/Son Dance, don’t forget your photographer is capturing your dance. We don’t like to interfere and want to capture it as it happens, but we can only run so many circles around you trying to capture your faces before we become obnoxious to your guests! lol And lastly, remember to feed your vendors that have been working hard all day for you. They will appreciate it and be able to carry on throughout your reception....

Formals…. A Family Affair. Family formals are a must at every wedding. It’s sometimes difficult for immediate family to remember that the formals are just that. The list can sometimes get long and overwhelming because so many family members come into town for the wedding. Mom and Dad want to make sure everyone gets a photo with the bride and groom. Group shots are definitely important, but it’s easy to lose sight of the fact this is your wedding day and not a Family Reunion Photo Session. Getting the important family formals while keeping the list to a minimum will insure that there will be sufficient time for photos of the bride and groom (the stars of the day) after the ceremony. This is particularly important if there is not a First Look Session. In addition, making sure that all the participants in the Family Formals remain present for the formals session is key. There’s nothing worse than being unable to locate a sibling or parent when it’s time for the formals. Delays to this session mean there is less time to capture photos of the Bride & Groom.

What it’s All About…The Ceremony. Your ceremony is the most important part of your day. The location of your ceremony can have an impact on the types of photos your photographer will take during your ceremony. For example, if your ceremony is outdoors in a wide open space (say…the beach or a park), your photographer has the ability to get shots from almost any angle, and is able to capture your ceremony in a very unique way. When your ceremony is in a church, this is quite a different story. Unless the church is “in the round” where the ceremony can be viewed from all sides, shooting from almost any angle is not possible. Some churches have very few, if any restrictions on the photographer…other churches have rules that dictate whether a photographer can use flash, where the photographer is allowed to stand (or not stand), how many photos the photographer is allowed to take, and so on. It is important to learn these restrictions when booking your ceremony site so that you have a good idea of how your ceremony will be captured. All this info is good to know before booking your photographer so the restrictions can be discussed. It is also important to realize that these types of restrictions will impact the artistic aspect of your wedding photos. Nothing is worse than envisioning how your ceremony photos will look, only to find out a few days before the wedding that your photographer must stand in the very back of the church for the entire ceremony.

Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer: getting ready

Getting Ready….Get Ready to Get Ready! Actually, getting the room prepared for the “Getting Ready” photos is more important than most brides realize. Having a neat, well lit area makes for a much nicer backdrop to showcase you and your girls as you get ready for your big day. A room full of shoe boxes, diet coke cans, Wendy’s bags, suitcases, and unmade beds will be distracting and detract from those special moments…the same with the messy childcare room at the church. Pay as much attention to the detail of your “getting ready” room as you do to the rest of your decor for your day. If you’re committed to the church childcare room as your place to get ready, bring some pretty sheets to hide all the alphabet stickers and playschool toys. Yes, photoshop can get rid of a few distractions in the post editing process… but having a clean and organized space will only enhance the images!

Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer: the details

It’s all in the Details…..the custom napkins, the invitation, the rings, even the custom ping pong balls used at the festivities the night before. Every bride wants all those little details she’s carefully planned and created captured in a photograph on her wedding day. It’s important to plan ahead and ensure those details are available to your photographer. If your invitation doesn’t make it to where you’re being photographed, your photographer can’t shoot it. If those custom napkins are only set out during the cocktail hour, make sure to keep one aside. Giving your bridesmaids a gift? Why not keep them prettily wrapped so your photographer can arrange them artfully for a cute photo….and then give them to your bridesmaids afterwards. Everyone loves the dress photos….and yours will look so much better on a pretty satin or wood hanger. (fyi…the plastic ones frequently break!)

What a pleasure it was to photograph Megan and Chad's engagement photos. They are such a sweet and loving couple. I love how relaxed they are with each other. The afternoon we spent together on Megan's Grandmother's old farm was almost magical to me. The landscape brought me back to my childhood in Michigan. And Megan and Chad were right at home. It's funny how romantic an old barn really is!! Plus, we got some photos with the pups, who yes, will be in the wedding! Looking forward to July 2nd when Megan and Chad tie the knot!!

many brides, grooms, and parents ask me what to consider when selecting a photographer for one of the most important days of their lives... this info below should help....

What to consider when selecting your WEDDING photographer

Experience Level - Has this person photographed other weddings? Does he/she do this for a living or for fun? Does this person have advanced training or a degree in photography?

Photographic Style - Are the images that you are shown, what you would like to see? There are "buzz" words flying about everywhere about photojournalism, formal, classic candid, modern,and so on. Do you want a mixture of black and white or only colour photos? how about some with an artistic spin?

Truth in Advertising - Is this the photographer that will be photographing your wedding or will they send in whomever is available. Don't be shocked, this happens more often than you can imagine. Be certain that you know which photographer is going to be there and that you see HIS/HER work and meet with that individually face to face.

Personality - Is the photographer that you meet someone that you can get along with? Is the "chemistry" there?

Appearance - Ask the photographer how he/she intends to dress. Is this person well groomed?

Price Range - Although, the last thing you want to do is shop by price, is this person within your budget? If not, is he or she worth the price difference? Make sure you understand what everything costs, including reprints and albums.

Delivery - How long does it take to get your proofs back, thank you cards, your finished album, your bridal portrait, etc.?

Offering - Whether it's a la carte or a package, do you understand what you are getting? Is there any room for changes and will it cost to do so? Sometimes the packages are fixed, sometimes they can be customized, in any case, ask. How much time will he/she spend? What if you need more time? Make sure that you know what's coming.

Contract - Do you understand the contract. Is it fair? Is everything spelled out? When it comes down going to court, only what is WRITTEN really counts, not what was promised. Make sure that you have no doubts before signing. Read it ALL.

What about deposits and payments? What does it say about cancellations and the photographer not being there? If the photographer protests, ask him why? This is one area NOT to take lightly. You could be disappointed for a long time.

References - A personal reference is always the best and people love to talk. Get a list of references from the photographer and check them out personally. A photographer who doesn't have references or is afraid to give them to you may not be the person that you need to hire.

Have you shot a wedding at my location before?
Do you have an assistant?
Do you have backup equipment and is it the same quality as the primary equipment?
What time will you begin and how long will you stay until?
When will the proofs be ready?
Do we get to keep the proofs?
Do you mark your proofs?
Where and how are your proofs marked?
How much extra for unmarked proofs?
Do we get to keep our negatives?
How long do you keep the negatives and will you sell them to us?
Do you use high speed film to expose natural light?
Do you have tele-photo and wide-angle lenses?
Do you work well with the other vendors? i.e.: coordinators, caterers, videographers.
Can you work from a photo checklist that we create?
How will you be dressed?
Do you process and develop your own film and prints?

Winchester Wedding Photographer: Kate + Paul's St. Patty's day wedding.

We could not have asked for a better day to have a St. Patty's day wedding than March 17th 2011. The sun was out and the air was warm. I had the pleasure of capturing Kate and Paul on their BIG day. It was such a fun time. Just an intimate ceremony followed by fun photography in the walking mall and them a reception (green Beer included) at the Picadilly Public house..... I have fallen behind on my blogging and apologize! It has been a crazy busy month or so. Since the last blog, weddings have been booked, session have been shot, and the studio/ office as been moved and is in the process of getting revamped!! I met Nancy and Jerry Just over a month before their wedding day. I knew from the moment I met them, that they were a wonderful match! Their wedding day was so much fun. Not only was it beautifully touching, but it was a great party for all their family and guests (even us vendors had a good time!!). it's the holiday season... engagement is in the air

It's the most wonderful time of the year. If you are a couple in love, it could be the most wonderful holiday season, with a sparkling ring on your left hand. From Thanksgiving through New Years Day marriage proposals fill the air. Last Thanksgiving when my husband bend down on one knee in the kitchen in front of his family, we too became one of these lucky holiday season engagements. It made the holidays even more special! Did you know that, one in four grooms will propose to his bride over the holiday season, this means that 26% of engagements happen between Thanksgiving and New Years. Blue Ridge Bridal Show at The George Washington Hotel

I had the pleasure of being a vendor at the boutique bridal show in the historic George Washington Hotel located in Winchester, VA back in Septmeber. The show was pit on by The Blue Ridge Bridal Show. It was a wonderful experience for my first show. I was able to meet and talk with many 2011 and 2012 brides. The show was intimate enough that I was able to take time with each bride and talk about the wedding of her dreams. I can say the show was a success. I have booked several sessions and weddings from this show. As well as meeting many new brides, families, a few grooms, and a lot of other great wedding vendors. I am looking forward to my next bridal show... hopefully in January!!

St. Lucia... a honeymoon and hurricane destination

We decided to traveled to St. Lucia for a beautiful, relaxing, and tropical honeymoon. We were looking for that romantic destination where we could enjoy warm weather, lush rain forests and an all around romantic time. When we arrived to the island it was 84 degrees and sunny. We knew we had made it to paradise. Our resort was called Ti Kaye, a 33 cottage village and spa. The accommodations and staff we wonderful. Our first several days were everything we could hope for. The beach was beautiful and the rum punch was fantastic, our room and private pool were great. It was truly the honeymoon we were hoping for, until.... our 6 days there. That morning they announced a tropical depression on it's way to the island, but no worries, it will be gone by 4 pm. 4 came and went, the rain continued and the winds picked up. By this point the storm had become a full strength hurricane named Tomas. Thank you Tomas for banishing us to our cottages at 4:30 pm for the next few days and continuing to rain! After Tomas had finally left the island, the sun came back out and, the resort let us go back down to the beach. We were still out of phones and internet and at this point had no idea when were were going home or what was happening on the rest of the island. We were suppose to head home on that Monday, but there were no planes coming in or out. So we had to stay longer, at this point we figured an extra day or two would be fine, we could make up for the rainy days. Finally we found out we could get home on Saturday night! At this point we were relieved, because we needed to get back to work. So after everything was straightened out for Saturday travel, we headed to the beach for one last tropical drink ocean front! When we were able to get home on Saturday (5 days after we should have been home) it was no easy task, but more of an adventure to get there. We had to hop an inter- Caribbean flight to Antigua, then get on a delta flight to JFK then finally fly into Regan. It was definetly a honeymoon we will never forget. It started out with relaxation, beautiful weather in a tropical paradise and ended in a full blown adventure!! and plenty of gret photo ops!!
Cheers to St. Lucia... Tomas... and an honeymoon to remember for a lifetime....

The Love of my Life and I tied the knot on October 23rd 2010. It was absolutely amazing, and I couldn't have dreamed up a more beautiful day. We both loved every minute of our special day! Our ceremony was lighthearted, romantic and fun. My Groom even wrote and sang me a song that truly described our love, life, and relationship. Our reception was filled with laughter and dancing. The night just seemed to fly by as we socialized with all our fabulous guests and danced the night away... So I would like to re-introduce myself as Stephanie Timmerman, Owner and photographer or Stephanie Leigh Photography & Design.

The Capture of Front Royal... Donna + Tom ELOPE!

I had the pleasure of photographing (and Witnessing) an elopement in Front Royal this July. Donna and Tom were such a wonderful bride and groom. They eloped to Front Royal from New Jersey. They chose their elopement location for sentimental reasons. Even though they eloped, she was dresses in a white gown and he wore tails!! The ceremony was beautiful under the gazebo in the middle of town. After wards we had fun going around town and taking photographs. Jenn + Kyle are getting Hitched... the engagement session

When I asked Jenn + Kyle how they met, they began by saying, "there are a lot of friends of friends involved". Kyle and Jenn met several years ago at a going away party of a friend. They met through friends (the easiest way to say it!) and ended up exchanging AIM screen names (very old school). Years went by until one day Jenn was searching for info on an opposing softball team. She noticed that Kyle taught at an SHS, and she figured that must be the same SHS. The SHS's were not the same, but Jenn and Kyle were brought together and led to this, a beautiful engagement and a fun wonderful couple.

The Engagement:
It was May 1st and Jenn was oh so tired from SAT duty early that morning, but would never give up on a picnic with Kyle. They headed to Tanglewood park with a picnic basket, blanket, and of course honey the dog. As they enjoyed their picnic and relaxed by the lake, Jenn laid down and attempted to take a nap. However, Kyle had different plans! Kyle asked Jenn if they could talk, not usually what you want to hear! So she sat up, not really knowing what to expect. Kyle pulled out a beautiful sparkling diamond ring and asked Jenn to share the rest of her life with him! All the while, Honey was fed a whole box for doggy treats to stay quite :0)

Lexy, Congrats on graduating! It was so great to be a part of your graduation. You are truly beautiful and have so many great adventures ahead of you. My words of advise to a new college freshman; open your mind and your heart, and don't schedule 8 am classes! As for your parents; she will be far from home, but you wont have to worry because of the love and lessons she learned from you. Good luck to you, even though you are going to Michigan State :-P

I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful setup for a wedding at the Holiday Inn Historic Gateway in Winchester, Virginia. While there, I was able to sit down with Rainee Simpson, Director of sales and talk (wedding) shop. The Holiday Inn is a great reception venue with a beautiful banquet room, large enough for 144 guest, convenience for over night accommodations, and even an indoor swimming pool!! Moving on New Years Eve... VA here we come

To move is a new start.... but to move on New Years Eve seems to be the ultimate way to start a new year in a new area. Winchester Virginia is the new home of Stephanie Leigh Photography and Design! My fiance was offered a wonderful job in Virginia and what do you know, we packed our things and hit the road. Moving is never a fun activity, but this time was different. The process was so much simpler, especially with the help from our parents (thanks*).

It was cold and snowy, luckily we were given Northface winter coats and Snuggies for Christmas from our families. Welcome to Virginia!!! (even though everyone around tells us they never get this much snow in Winchester....) We look forward to exploring the area!

Fall Adventures

I wanted to make sure to post these images before all of fall was gone. I know that Thanksgiving is closely approaching and soon after the turkey is digested the Autumn is over. Christmas is already setting up camp in all the store and shops around town. But with the last few weeks until the Red and Green take over completely let's enjoy the beautiful colors of fall. Living in the Lake Norman area, I am only a short car ride from the Blue Ridge Mountains that run through North Carolina. This year I was lucky enough to visit more than once. The images included in this post show what a picturesque place the NC mountains.

The Mast General Store is located in the tiny town of Valle Crucis. The historic store is filled with outfitter wear, camping goods, and a TON of candy.

The next group of images is from the Linville area. Linville falls are absolutely breathe taking!! When I approached the over look I did not know what to expect. I thought there would be a small waterfall tucked into the trees. To my surprise I step out into a view that truly took my breathe away. I would say this my be my favorite view in the mountains.
Growing up in Michigan we always had crisp fall days with leaves falling in shades of red, orange, and brown. These trips to the mountains brought those wonderful fall feeling back again!! :-)
